For the 28th time, students officially started the academic year at KU. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the inauguration took place in accordance with sanitary requirements. Despite these conditions, the ceremony was organized in a traditional format.

The academic year also begins the 5-year long term of the new Rector's administration. The fact that this is also a generational change was mentioned in the Rector's speech, by Prof. Grzegorz Mazurek, who announced the upcoming changes in a short statement: "A new school for a new world". Prof. Robert Rządca was appointed Vice-Rector for Research and Development and Deputy Rector, Prof. Aleksander Maziarz was appointed Vice-Rector for Didactic Affairs, Prof. Aleksandra Przegalińska was appointed Vice-Rector for International Relations and ESR, Prof. Bartłomiej Nowak was appointed Vice-Rector for Cooperation with the Environment. Prof. Mariola Ciszewska-Mlinarič has been appointed as Dean of the College of Management, Prof. Jacek Tomkiewicz as Dean of the College of Finance and Economics and Prof. Robert Zieliński as Dean of the College of Law.

During the inauguration, the matriculation of first year students of Bachelor, Master and Doctoral studies took place. The Rector took an oath from their representatives. Foreign students took the oath in English.

On behalf of the President of the Republic of Poland, the Rector presented the state awards to distinguished employees of our university. KU also recognized its friend, Professor Alberto Lozano Platonoff from the University of Szczecin, who received the Kozminski University Medal. The Medal of Merit was awarded to Prof. Kazimierz Przybysz, a long-term Vice-Rector for Didactic Affairs, who has been associated with KU since the beginning of the university.

- The successes of our University are significant, but above all we are a university with a culture of modesty, mutual support, respect, regard for humanistic values and interdisciplinary education, so that our graduate can see the world deeper and wider than just from the perspective of specialized education - said the Rector KU, Professor Grzegorz Mazurek.

The Rector also reminded us of the university's achievements so far. In 2020, KU was awarded the 1st place in the national ranking of "Perspectives" not only in the category of non-public universities, because it has held this position for 21 years, but also among economic universities, ahead of all public universities. The international rankings of the "Financial Times" also awarded Kozminski with the 39th place in the world in management education at the master's level, 20th place for finance, 61st place for Executive MBA studies and 48th place for universities in the ranking of the best European business schools. In addition to having the three most important international accreditations: EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA, the university has also received the Positive Impact Rating certificate and obtained the BSIS accreditation confirming its social commitment and real impact on its immediate environment.

Prof. Andrzej K. Koźmiński, the Founder and for many years the Rector, and currently the Honorary President of the university, in his words addressed to students and employees, spoke about the need for solidarity and empathy as proof of humanity, especially in times of uncertainty aggravated by the spreading pandemic.
