We were honored by the presence of the rectors of Polish universities, Professor Sebastian Skuza, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Minister, Mirosław Sanek, Deputy President of the Office for Personal Data Protection, as well as ambassadors and Polish business community representatives.
Professor Witold Kieżun, our lecturer, professor of economic sciences, management theoretician, praxeologist and participant of the Warsaw Uprising, was also a special guest.
KU President, prof. Andrzej Koźmiński
In his speech, His Magnificence, Professor Witold Bielecki summed up the past year by the following words:
I will begin by quoting a few numbers. They don't belong to the ones used in Big Data, but I think it's worth getting acquainted with them. They will allow you to familiarize yourself with the current state of our University.
Almost 9,000 students study at KU on all levels of studies (including doctoral studies).
This year, we had a record-breaking admission session. We accepted a total of 2800 students for undergraduate and graduate studies, and 1800 postgraduate students. I distinguish the postgraduate studies, because they generate over 1/3 of KU's income.
We admitted almost 350 foreigners for our programs conducted in English, and 170 for our programs conducted in Polish. These are people from 80 countries from all around the world. The majority of them are Ukrainians, Indians, Turks, Belarusians, Germans and French.
During the past academic year, 324 students came to KU as part of international exchange programs, and 226 of our students participated in such programs
52 of our students went on international internships abroad.
We are expanding the network of international universities with which we have, so called, Double Degree programs in the fields of management, and finance and accounting. We currently have 9 of them, among others with such institutions as: ESCP Europe, Lancaster University, Skema or Aston Business School.
In the 2018/2019 academic year, the Project Management Office obtained funding and implemented, in cooperation with other University departments, 14 projects with a total value of over PLN 34.2 million.
On the other hand, the Scientific Activity Support Office is currently implementing 41 projects for the total amount of over PLN 10 million.
Last year, we organized 93 conferences, seminars and workshops attended by over 6,500 people. This includes 9 large international conferences, two of which I will mention: the annual EFMD and ISAGA conferences - the latter celebrating its 50th anniversary.
I mentioned these several numbers, because their multiplicity and size give an idea of the academic nature of our University.
As you know, we are classified by the Perspektywy national ranking as one of the leading economic universities in the country, and since the beginning of our existence we have been ranked first among all non-public universities.
We wish all our students, both new and continuing ones, a lot of enthusiasm for learning and perseverance in gaining knowledge. The academic year 2019/2020 is officially open!
